The "New Zealand Locomotive Efcgk neers' Journal" for July gives the following synopsis of the dispute between the association"'-and the Government since- delegate T .mee.fiiig Thr TSliay/ "The delegates interviewed' the lActing» Prime Minister, and advised him thai 09} per cent of members had rejected the proposals, and 95} per cent'haddecided to use the strike weapon te gain redress for their grievances. They asked the Actmg-Prime Minister' te appoint a conciliator—either Judge Sue or Judge Stringer would be satisfactory to the organisation, as they averred that their case would stand adjuolrating upon by the greatest "Tory" in New." Zealand. The Acting-Premier replied later, stating that he could not allow either of these gentlemen to so act. The Executive Council 'then asked for the Hon. A. M. Myers to act as chairr man at the conference suggested, but} again there was a refusal, and the Acting-Prime Minister suggested a round table conference with. Minister and General Manager. The association maintained that they had already conferred with the Minister, but could see no objection to a further Conference. The conference commenced on Monday, 9th, and lasted until Monday, the 16th, but as most matters are somewhat sub judice, it is too early to comemnt upon the result, except to say that a satisfactory settlement-may he reached if a reasonable view of "the representations made ts taken by the, Minister. The Executive Council meets the Minister again at an early date, and which wilh it is hoped, be the final meeting during this dispute."
