NEWMARKET COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held* on Wednesday evening, the Mayor {Mr C Leek) being in the chair. There were "also" present:—Messrs. F. Cooper. F. Wade P Boone. S. Donaldson. A. Seeeonibe T' W F. J. O'Meara. D. Smerdon,' and G Kent. I'roposed Loan Poll.—lt was moved by the Mayor that a poll of ratepnvers be taken to sanction a loan of £10.000 for various local Improvements. It was thought that £6000 of this money would be devoted lo concrete road works, and the remaining £4000 to drainage and general works. War Memorial.— The question of giving financial aid to the City Council in connection with the Auckland War Memorla, scheme was referred for report to the Legal and Financial Committee. Peace Celebrations.—A • subsidy was voted for the children's Peace Day celehrations. and Mr A. Seccombe promised a donation of £130 as a nucleus for a library fund at the Newmarket School.
