TUTANEKAI'S ISLAND TRIP. INTERESTING ENTERTAINMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The following official message has been received from the steamer Tutanekai, ; dated Wednesday, the 16th July:— ""The Governor-General has completed his Island tour, and the Tutanekai is . now homeward bound, via the Kerjiuadecs. She visited Niue, and surprised , I and gladdened the local residents, whose food supplies had not been replenished j since November. The schooner Hen- | riette anchored two days previously, •and brought up supplies. The Xiueans, ■however, were iv good health. On arrival at Vavau the Tutanekai berthed for the first time during the whole month at sea. The day being Sunday, there were no public functions, ln the afternoon the Governor-General and party made a harbour trip to the caves. The beauty and vastness of Vavau harbour excited the admiration of all. On arrival at Pago Pago salutes and official calls were exchanged. Their Excellencies and the Hon. Dr. Pomare were afterwards the guests for -two days of Governor Terhune. Others were billeted by various American naval officers. At noon there was a salute of seventeen guns simultaneously by the Tutanekai, the shore battery and "the gunboat Fortune, to celebrate peace. Entertainment included a baseball match, tennis party, reception and ball at Government House. The cordiality of the welcome and hospitality was most marked. The official landing at Apia was most spectacular. A dozen native boats, each fifty feet long, some of them manned by thirty oarsmen, and garlanded from end to end with ropes of greenery- and flowers, escorted his Excellency to the shore, to the accompaniment of a Royal salute from the Tutanekai. The Administrator welcomed their Excellencies on landing, and the local garrison mounted a guard of honour for their official reception at the Courthouse. Their Excellencies and the Hon. Dr. Pomare were the guests of the Administrator at Vailima. Motor drives eastwards and westwards were made, and visits paid to the large plautations. including one at Mulifamia. stated to -be the best and largest in the world. Several thousands attended a native -feast, at which there was kava drinking and dances, regarded as the greatest event since the British occupation. The ball at Vailima was a brilliant affair. Savaii was visited and further wonderful dancing was witnessed, some surpassing the previous best of the tour. On Sunday. at Apia, there was a church parade peace-thanksgiving service in English and and the investiture with the D.S.O. of Captain Beck. On the voyage to Fiji a heavy beam sea was experienced. The entertainment at Levuka included the preparation and presentation of a kava dinner by the Ovalait Club. At Suva their Excellencies were the guests I of the Governor of Fiji, and on Friday j they attended a mayoral reception at the Grand Pacific Hotel; on Saturday a j garden party at Government House, and I on Monday an official dinner on the Tutanekai. All on board are in excellent health, but anxious to return to j the Dominion.
