SUBURBAN TRAM SERVICE.
j ■ ■- » ~ j PROTEST FROM ROAD BOARD. j INSUFFICIENT CABS. A protest against the shortage of cars on the Onehunga line was made at the meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board last evening. Mr. H. Dobbie, chairman, said he had been speaking to several conductors, who had told him that it was quite an exception to make a trip to Onehunga without giving the signal to the motorman that the car was full. It was time a protest was made to the City Council in the matter. He moved that the Board draw attention to the disabilities under which the residents of the districts are placed because of the inadequacy of the tram service, especially since the curtailment of the railway service. He added that at least three more cars were required on the Epsom and Royal Oak run. Mr. T. Rowe, in seconding the motion, said four extra cars had been put on the Onehunga run, but the Council had not yet sufficient men, and the employees had to work overtime to run them. Mr. Clark asserted that night after night he had seen two Ponsonby cars half full following each other, while the Onehunga and Royal Oak cars were invariably full, and ran right through. The motion was carried, and it was decided to call a conference of the tram■ways committees of the Onehunga Borough Council and the Mount Roskill and One Tree Hill Road Boards to discuss the tramway service in their respective districts.
