CARE OF SOLDIERS.
, . * "THE BEST WE CAN GIVE." (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, this day. In bis speech at the opening of the new ward of the Whangarei Hospital the Hon. G. W. Russell said Whangarei was the main centre of the whole North '. Auckland district. He was surprised at Kamo Springs to find the large number of soldiers who were stationed there, and more surprised at the number being treated at Whangarei Hospital. The system had been laid clown to keep them as near their homes as possible. Splendid work had been done, and was being done for the benefit of our boys, and nothing was too good for them. (Applause). Speaking as the representative 01 the Government, he maintained that ■ none of these "boys"' in after life , should feel the result of this war. They ■ were, entitled to every means that science • could suggest or money could purchase ; to restore them to mental and physical i health as they were before they donned the King's uniform. We owed that to those fellows who had made such sacrifices, and gained such magnificent vie--1 toiy. Their courage, resource, and mi,- , tiative had stamped them as gentlemen Ito whom none were superior in the Imperial Army. To those who had lost 2 dear ones he extended the sympathy ol - the Government, and he said, with ali s yeverance, that they had left behind ar 1 imperishable memory that we might , almost say was worth such sacrifice.
