BOARD OF HEALTH.
STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Board of Health resumed its sitting to-day and discussed the most recent statistics regarding influenza in the Dominion. Other matters discussed included the constitution of the Board, its procedure, the organisation of the Public Health Department, and venereal disease in the Dominion. j Mr. C. J. Drake, chief clerk of the j Health Department, was appointed secrei tary to the Board. It was resolved that the Hoard should meet monthly, I the next meeting to he held towards the end of April. The Board resolved that the Public Health Department and I the Internal Affairs Department should |be requested to report on their relation. ! with the local bodies of tho Dominion lin connection with the matters of public health, anil that opinions should be obitained on the same subject from the town 'clerks of tlie four chief centres.
.After the close of the first meeting of the Board the .Minister for Public Health said the meeting had proved most useful and informative, and it was clear from the tone of the meeting that members of the Board regarded their responsibilities most seriously, and were determined they would exercise the powers given them in the most thorough manner. He assured members of the Board that although, under the statute, their powers were advisory only, yet their opinions would be regarded with the greatest respect, and where these opinions were in conflict with the views of the Public Health Department, as might prove at times to be the case, the question at issue would be submitted to the Cabinet as tlie final authority for consideration.
