TRAM FARES.
(To Uie Editor.) Sir.—Regarding the proposed alteration of tram fares, the matter is clearly one that should not be settled without a poll of the electors—omission of which really amounts to the Council making a present to the company of the people's money without consulting them, seeing that the company is under a contract, sanctioned by a poll to carry at the present fares. A much less important matter —viz.. extension of running hours on Sunday—was only allowed after a poll; and in this matter of fares the proper course is clearly for the Council to discuss the whole thing publicly, and— after laying all the facts before the electors—to take a poll which can be on the same day as the Council elections next month. —I am, etc.. RALPH L. ZIMAN.
