Mr. X. A. Nathan has been re-elected president of the Northern Clnh. Mr. T. Harle Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, left for Waihi last evening. Mr. E. A. Brown, of St. Stephen's Avenue, has been gazetted a trustee of the Auckland Savings Bank. The Hon. C. Louisson, M.LC. and Mrs. Louisson are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. G. S. Douglas-Macaul, Fis.k Jubilee Sincere advance agent, is staying at the Central Hotel. Mr. 11. D. Heather, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, has returned from Kotorua. Dr. C. J. Reakes. director of the live stock division of the Department of Agriculture, returned South last evening. The Rev. S. J. Handover, who was for three years at St. Peter'e Church, Wellington, has been elected Fellow Chaplain at Magdalen College, OxforJ. Mr. W. M. &ethope, registrar of births, deaths, and marriages at Masterton, and a resident of that town for 40 years, died suddenly this week while sitting in his chair. He was 07 yeare of age. The Rev. James Flanagan, who conducted a Methodist mission in New Zealond nine years ago, has just died in England. He was the founder of St. George's Hall. London. Mr. A. C. Steele, of Tahunga, Poverty j Bay, is in town as a delegate to the Farmer?' Union Conference, and is staying at Mount Eden with his brother, Mr. I Marjoribanks Steele. Lieut. Campbell, who formerly held the positon of adjutant to the lGth Waikato Regiment, has been appointed military instructor to the Xeu- Zealand Klying School at Kohimarama. Lieut. Campbell lias had considerable experience in both seaplaning and land work at Home, and is exceptionally well quulLfied for the work of instruction at the school. He j saw considerable service at Gallipoli, and I was wounded while taking part in the hostilities there. Captain Colbeck, -who has decided to Tetire from the executive of the Farmers" Union, was presented by the Auckland j provincial members at the annual rei union last evening with a gold watch. i The president (Mr. A. Ross), in mak--1 ing the presentation, stated that no man ! had done more for the interests of I farmers in the province than Captain I Colbeck, and members sincerely regretted that he had decided to retire. Captain J Colbeck, who was received with applause, lin reply expressed hU thanks to the donors, and in the course of his remarks referred to the hard work that had been necessary to keep the union alive in the early days.
