SHUNTING FATALITY.

MIAN KILLED AT MERCER. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") MERCER, this day. A fatal accident took place at Mercer at ten o'clock this morning. As the 7.17 train from Auckland was shunting off _on-.e iPipty cars, Harold Tomlinson, a shunter, jumped in between to prevent the cars colliding, and was badly crushed in the stomach. He died a few minutes later. The bumpers of the cars were stove in. It seemed that Tomlinson was caught in the tap of the Westinghouse brake. There were passengers on the train, but none sustained any injury.
