THE WHEAT PURCHASE.
J WELLINGTON, Saturday. J The statement cabled from Melbourne that the Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald has bought 1.500,000 bushels of Australian I wheat at 5/6 a bushel, f.o.b. on behalf lof the New Zealand Government caused j surprise in local circles. It does not appear to have been expected by *merchants that Mr. Mac Donald would have ito pay so much.
