NEW PLYMOUTH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. At the Supreme Court to-day William J. Jones' was acquitted of the -.barge of indecent assault on a Maori girl at Waitara. In a slander action, in which May Sefton sought to recover £750 damages from Lowry Baskin for defamatory statements made by him at a meeting of the Stratford County Council, the jury a warded £350. Three divorce actions were dealt with, each on the wife's petition. In the defended case, Mary McNab v. David McNab, the jury decided that the defendant had not been guilty of habitual drunkenness and habitual cruelty, and the petition was dismissed. The other two cases were Euphemia Clarke v. James Clarke and Julia Heather v. Arthur Heather. The petitions were not opposed, and decrees nisi were granted.
