The National Council of tine Adult Suffrage League held a great meeting in London. Whilst welcoming the resolutions carried at the Speaker's conference as a step in the right direction, the meeting urged the Government to introduce a simple and generous franchise for adults— jaen and women. Among those present were Mr. Applcton, secretary ot the General Federation of Trades Unions and Labour adviser to Sir Seville Chamberlain, organiser of civilian service. Mr E. J. Wardle, M.P., and Mr. Williams, of the National Transport Workers' Federation. Mr. J. L. Garvin, of the "Observer," wrote that he had become a convert to adult suffrage since the war had shown that the progressive strength and vitality of the State 'Was dependent on both sexes. Sir J. Simon agreed, and hoped that the movement would be carried out in an orderly and constitutional manner, with a view to obtaining the State's acceptance of the principle of women's suffrage. Once Parliament removed the harrier nothing would prevent water finding its ■ level. - i It was resolved that it was' essential to include wage-earning women, __o | wage-easrners' wives.
