PRESENTATION TO MR. A. C. WOLCOTT.

A very pleasing ceremony took place in the office of the South British Insurance Company, upon the occasion of the retirement, on pension, of Mr. A. C Woolcott, secretary of the company. In presenting Mr. Woolcott with a very handsome phonograph, subscribed for by the members of the staff, the General Manager (Mr. P. H. Upton) expressed to him the regret that he and all present felt, that for reasons of health it had been deemed advisable for Mr. Woolcott to retire from active service; and also expressed the regret of the company in losing so valued an officer, and trusted that being now released from business worries his health would continue to improve, and enable him lo enjoy many years of well-earned rest. Ip replying, Mr. Woolcott spoke of the splendid harmony that had for so many years existed between the officers of the company and himself; he reminded those present that lie had served the company under four general managers. He had served 21 years in head office under the late Mr. James Kirker. Mr. Woolcott said that be could not retire from the service of the company without making special reference to that gentleman, who had done so much for the company and the staff during his management of its affairs. Mr. Woolcott reminded all present that it was to Mr. Kirker, supported by the directors, that the 6taif owed a debt of lasting gratitude for the creation of the Officers' Provident and Superannuation Fund. In conclusion, Mr. Woolcott feelingly expressed his keen regret at having to sever his connection with the members of tie staff, all of whom he regarded aa personal friends, and he wished them all prosperity in the company's service, and good health and happiness at all times.
