ACTORS AND TOMMIES.

A UNIQUE CONCERT. Writing from London on April 28. an Aucklander says:— "I am enclosing with this note a concert programme that speaks for itself. It may prove of interest to the Auckland public as showing the interest of the ''stars'' of the musichall profession in our sick and wounded. They arrived bright, cheery and lively, although all had a hard night* work to do afterwards. Eugene Stratton at the close thanked the "boys" for having given tiiem tbe privilege and pleasure of appearing before them. Tie put it rather neatly. It was all owing to "Tommy" that thp profession was in a position to earn its bTcad and butter, and it was only the duty and right of the profession to return in some small measure "'for what we have received." It would tax the pocket of an American millionaire to put up such a programme for his guests. They brought along with them smokes for the men and bou.qnets for the sisters of the hospital. Two or three of the patients got hysterical seizures through an unexpected flashlight photo, and had to be carried out. You see this hospital as devoted entirely to the treatment of nervous eases, some 250, and a recent W.O. order is to the effect that all serious caeca of nervous breakdown, etc, etc., are to be sent here for treatment, and not kept in the ordinary military hospitals, so that we are always full. I was transferred here from the Royal Herbert Hospital, at Woolwich, a couple of months ago, as neurologist to the institution. When I shall return to Auckland again is quite uncertain. If onr New Zealand boy 3 who are hanging back could only hear how highly our contingent is spoken of by the Home Tommy and everyone here, there would be very few "cold-feeters" left amongst you. And the cry all the time is "Men, more men!"
