Power to Sell.-The Council resolved, on the motion of the Mayor, to seek lesisla--1 tive authority to sell hind purchased from | Messrs. I Stable Permits. - It was (lecided that I permits to erect stables in the borough must first be sanctioned by the Council before being issued by the office Borongh Inspector.—lt was resolved that the lioroush inspector be gazetted an inspector under the Noxious AV'eeds Act. Kor the Children. — In answer to an appeal from the Belgian C'onsui fMr. A. M. Ferguson), it was decided, on the. motion of Mr. Brewiu. seconded by Mr. H. J. Dav-ies, to subsidise the efforts of the Onehunga- school Children in raising funds for She starving Belgian ichildrem, the Council's contribution not to exceed £10. During the discussion the Mayor expressed the opinion that the Government should pass legislation compelling all local bodies to .support all the benevolent schemes- promoted In the interests of those who suffer through the war out of the rates. Plauting Trees.—lt was decided, on the motion of the Mayor, that the HlUsboro' Properly Committee should be empowered to cull for tenders for planting the whole of the boundary of that portion of the property to be used as a cemetery with trees. Recommendations.—The Streets Committee brought forward the following recommendations, which were adopted:—(l) That the borough engineer (Mr. H. 11. Metcalfe) be instructed to test the leveh? of the tram track in Queen Street to see if it is in keeping with the plans In the Council office. (2) That the surveyor be asked to define the boundary of the corner near the Seddou Memorial for street widening i purposes. A fnrther recommendation. | -'That a horse and spring tip-dray be ! purchased by the Council for use on the | streets," was referred to the Council-lu-j committee to report. Tenders for Shelter Shed.—The following tencVers were received for erecting a shelter-shed at the junction of Queen and I Trafalgar Streets:—.!. A. Penman; £40 10,': E. Morton. £35.—Referred to the Strectei Committee to report. The tender of Messrs. Harrison and Grierson of £36 10/ for surveying the new cemetery at Mount Roskill was accepted. This was the only tender received. Notices of Motion. —Mr. W. .T. Brewin gave notice to move: -'That a Public Service Committee be appointed, consisting of four members, and tile chairman of the Streets Committee be chairman ex officio; that the by-law re stables be resc'tided, anQ a new by-law he drafted.'' More Light.—lt was agreed to write to £*r F. AY. Lang, asking him to interview the Minister for Railways, and ask him for improved lighting facilities at the Onehungn and Te Papapa railway stations. Also, that the Ligntlng Committee bring trp a report on the lighting of Princes Street from Queen Street to the beach. Ail-night Telephone.—Mr. Brewin moved: "That the Mayor, while in Wellington next week, wait on 'Sir F. W. Lang, the member for the district, with the view of having an all-night slot telephone placed in Onehungn." iMr. Brewin offered the lease of a piece of land in Queen Street free for 7, 14, or 21 years as a site for the 'phone if the reqtiest is granted. The resolution was carried.
