STANLEY BAY.
MEETING OF RATEPAYERS. A meeting of the Stanley Bay Ratepayers' Association was held In the Methodist Church on Monday night, Mr. Walter Fieldes presiding over a very fair attendance of members. It was decided to ask the Borough Council for permission to put i doors on tho local bathing sheds, so tba-. i they might ho locked up during the months of July, August and September. The boys attending the Technical School will make the doors if required. The secretary was instructed to write to the Electricity Supply Company asking them to paint their poles white to a height of 6ft where they were standing on the footpath, as several accidents had occurred. The bad state of the footpath from the jetty up to the hill on the Stanley Point Itoad. which is almost impassable in- bad weather, was discussed at the request of the Stanley Point residents, and the meeting unanimously resolved to write to the local authority to see if some improvements could he effected, as it is the worst piece of rnading in the locality. Mr. Fisher spoke at some length on the question of the new borough loan of £12,000. He pointed oot that it was unfair for the ratepayers to have to pay interest on the amount of £6500 for water meters and then to have to pay 5/ per annum as meter rent as an additional charge. Cr. Howitt explained that the water meter question was again to be discussed at a special meeting of the Borough Council to be held on Tuesday evening, and that nothing definite had been settled yet. Ke asked those present to trust the Council in its endeavour to settle what was a very vexed question, and explained at length the objects of raising the loan, which was to place the borough finances on a sound basis and to do away with the overdraft of £!)000 which, had been largely caused by j money being spent on works by previous j Councils In anticipation of loan moneys being available. The past system' of borough finance had not beeu sonnd, and the boards should he cleared to give the present Council a clear run to go on with necessary work. Members generally approved of the loan proposals as explained by the councillor. j Mr. Fieldes gave a full report of park matters, and said when the Borough Council had complied with the requirements of , the Act a move towards getting the work started could bo made. The Mayor, Cr. Howitt and Mr. Fieldes were given a vote of thanks for the interest they took in ' park matters. j i
