Mr. Hughes received nnmerous farowell gifts, including cases of wine and hundreds of books for his voyage. Scores of farewell letters and telegrams are arriving daily from unions and all sections oi the community. The general health of the party is good, and the prospects of a pleasant voyage home are bright. Mr. Hughes rejected an offer of £700 for 10 articles from a Sunday newspaper.; Considerable pressure was brought at the last moment to induce him to remain | longer, at any rate till the Irish and) War Office questions were settled; butj the proposal was not entertained. I The whole of the Sunday Press regrets' his departure, and sums up his visit asj a phenomenal success. The "Weekly Dispatch" states thatl Berlin rejoices over his departure. I The "Sunday Observer" points out! that the reason Mr. Hughes scored a! success in tho Australian negotiations! with the Ministry was that he appealed direct and secured the sympathy and support of the British public.
