The British »nd French, before Saturday's advance, poured an inccaeant aduge of high explosives upon the German lines. It is estimated that a jnfllion shell* were thrown. The Exchange reports that many German prisoners state that they had just arrived from the Russian front, and were re-equipped in Berlin. Great optimism prevails in Paris. Newspapers comment op the fact that the Censor permit* tiu. word victory to be applied to the Champagne battle for the first occasion since the battle of the Marne. Several trains of Britieh-mede prisoners arrived at Havre. All are glad that their fighting ie over.
