ST. ANDREWS SOCIETY.
"ROBERT THE BRUCE NICHT." Under the auspices of the Auckland St. Andrew's Society a "Robert the Bruce v leh t" and social gathering took place in the Masonic Hall, Upper Queen Street, last evening. There was a numerous attendance. A musical programme occupied the greater part of the evening, and during a balf-bour interval an appropriate flavouring was given to the gathering by the distribution of heather, while haggle occupiedpride of place in tbe refreshment menu. Needless to say, the musical programme was almost entirely given over to Scottish selections, and the services of an excellent company of artiste had been secured. Selections were given by the St. Andrew's Pipe Band, and some cleverly-executed Highland and Morris dunces were contributed by members of the St. Andrew's Dancing Class. These included the "Reel o' Tultocb." "Rigs o' Marlow," and "Country Gardens." The vocalists all acquitted themselves admirably. Mrs. J. W. • Stewart sang "Bonny Banks of Loch Lomond" and "Rothesay Bay"; Miss Jessie Bartlett contributed "Blue Bonnets Over the Border" and "Robin Adair"; Mr. John McGregor sang "We're a' Scottish Here" and "Kirkconnell Lea"; aud the popular "Fu' the Nou" was rendered by Mr. Wightman McCombe. Mr. McCombe's solos on a one-strine fiddle—"Mary o' Argyll" and "The Auld Hoose"—provided an interesting feature of the programme. Mrs. Neave provided the accompaniments. The secretarial arrangements were In the bands of Mr. R. A. Denney.
