ENEMY'S WHOLESALE LOSSES IN COUNTER-ATTACK. WHOLE COMPANIES SURRENDER TO BRITISH INFANTRY. \ (Received 10.55 a.m.) LONDON*, March 13, "Eye-witness" with the British headquarters says that on March 11 it was found at "Veuve Chapelle that the enemy was making an incessant effort to regain what he had lost. On the 12th the Germans began to show signs of great exhaustion, and the attackers frequently held up their hands when we fired. Our infantry did not give them a moment's rest, and whole companies surrendered. " The dead lay thick along the whole front, there being 2,000 dead south of the village and another "-ftO stretched out in front of one of our battalions east of the village. These did not include large numbers killed at Ncuvc Chapelle itself. A patrol found a dummy figure in front of a German trench, which exploded on removal, injuring one man. A German officer who was taken prisoner stated that three princes, including Prince Leopold of Hohenzollcrn, -were serving at Neuvc Chapelle. He believed that all were killed. OFFICERS' DEATH ROLL AT NEUVE CHAPELLE. FIVE THOVSAHD GERMAN PRISONERS REACH ENGLAND. (Received 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 18. A further list of 119 officers' casualties at Neuvc Chapelle is published, including 54 dead. Five thousand German prisoners have arrived at Southampton in the last four days.
