H. Cheeseman; Dunedin— Mr." T-'H- Thompson; Wellington — Messrs. J. C. Port, T. Forsyth, J. M. Fleming, W. A. Kellow, J. H. G. -Rowley, ' md"D. McKay (secretary). The chairman, in moving the adoption «£ the annual report, congratulated members on the finances of the association, and also on the continued adherence of members to the association. The membership, of the society was now 227. A total of 97 of these will be able to qual|fv,for promotion.from the eiate "io'ifce jelTowship~degree. THe accu-"" : mulated funds of the society stood at '£279 13/7 »nd the receipts were in excess of the expenditure to the-amount-of • £16 The. chairman emphasised the Importance ol retailers' books and aeewnts , being periodically audited, and suggested that commercial accountants . should bring the value of such investigations before the lietice of their principal customers. Another matter dealt with •was the proposals that have "been made in different -feowjis to amend the.. Bankruptcy. Act and_to.abolish the_office of Official Assignee in Bankruptcy." He expressed the opinion that the existence «f that official was one of the best insuranee-iunds-against bad dehts., Kq-. lerring to the attitude of the Xew Zealand Society, he said thatrie regarded' taking tbe matriculation examination , for the examination of that body as harsh and unnecessary. ■ The report and halanee-eheet were ' adopted.
