THE DESTRUCTION OF CAMPBELL'S POINT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —The demolition of this beautiful promontory and' vantage point Iras at length been determined on by our harbour and railway authorities, who seem to consider that the hest iway to make our harbour beautiful is to reduce all its curves and indentations into straight lines of 'brick-wall regularity. Are the citizens of Auckland going to allow this barbaric and quite needless spoliation of their own property to he perpetrated? Where now is Mayor Parr and his scathing denunciations of the scheme 1 Has he meanly betrayed his trust, and gone over to the enemy? Assuming that it is necessary to take the railway along the foreshore, a simple archway, or series of archways, are all that is necessary for rail or other traffic to go through this narrow promontory, and so preserve this beautiful headland and matchless outlook for the benefit and ■ pleasure of future generations.—l am/ etc., EX-COUNCILLOR. Parnell.
