ROADS AND BRIDGES.

DEPUTATIONS TO MINISTER.

(By Telegraph.— Correspondent.)

PAEROA, this day.

This morning the Hon. W. Fraser (Mm ister for Public Works) received deputations from the Ohinemuri County Council.

Mr. H. Poland, M.P., introduced a deputation which brought under the Minister's notice the bridge over the Waihou River at Tirohia. Cr. Strange explained that a grant of £500 had been made for the bridge and the estimated cost of the bridge was £2,500. The bridge was connected with a road giving access to thousands of acres of first-class land.

The Minister promised to have a grant made and the bridge provided at once at the estimated cost. In regard to a bridge over the Waitoa River, Mr. Strange explained that the proposed removal of the site of the bridge would mean diverting traffic from the main line of road. The Council asked that the original site be retained.

The Minister agreed that the direct road was obviously the right one. He would consider the question, and report on his return to Wellington.

Discussing the reading of the Government portion of the Paeroa township, Mr. Hubbard explained that the Government sold township sections in Paeroa and failed to form roads to give access to the sections.

Mr. Poland stated that the Lands Department had sold sections, received all the money, and spent no money in roading, consequently section holders were asking the Council for roads and footpaths to their sections. He considered the Government should assist the Council in forming these roads.

The Minister said it was for the Minister of trends to consider the matter, and promised to confer with him on the' subject.
