READY TO FIGHT.
NEW ZEAI.ANDERS IN EGYPT. ONLY INFANTRYMEN ENGAGED. An interesting letter -hae Deen feceived from Corporal J. O*Donnell, of Auckland, writing from Zeitun on January 26th: — "We got news thie evening that we aTe wanted' at lemailia, and that in aJI probability we will be engaged, before another forty-eight hours is over. I am in a great hurry, and beinjr very excited I cannot write well or a long letter either. There was great enthusiasm when the new 6 was read out. The boye jumped for joy, as we are all dead eick of playing soldiers, and are glad that the real thing has come at last. Old "Tipperary" has been played by the 'bande all the evening, and we are all hoarse with cheering. The niggers are still running, I think; they all, thought we had gone mad, and they had good reason. We have to be ready all night, and entrain at 7 in the morning for Ismailia, where we expect to he in the thick of it. Aβ the boys, who were eick up till to-night, are as well as can be, and as happy as larks —only been putting it on. The V.M.C.A. is full of iade writing home, as it as only a hnrrred chance perhaps for a long time. The mountede are not going (only the whole infantry brigade), and they are down-hearted. One young chap came over to mc and said, "Good-bye and good luck," and hoped that he would be in it-soon. - We. have a good ..man in. charge of the 3rd (Major: ■Darwißon), and if be lead* ua will do the-, fight?.-
