In the region of Klaus the Russians surrounded a small Austrian outflanking column, and an entire battalion of the enemy surrendered. The German army under General Eichorn is rapidly retreating, and is now clear of the Augustowo woods, and within a dozen miles of its own border. ' The valley of the Xiemen is also clear of the enemy, who lost touch with the force operating against Osowiecz. The Kussians have made slower progress round Mlawa, where yon Hindenberg has a large force guarding communications. Twelve thousand prisoners were takrn in East Galicia and sent to Siberia. Four thousand Austrians in East Cialicia were marching without food for three days before their commissariat arrived. When the Russians appeared the Austrians raised tbe white flag and surrendered. The Paris "Journal's' , correspondent at Petrograd describes the unshakable determination of the Russians to expel the Germans from the Masurian Lakes region, and invest and besiege Konigsberg in order to clear the road for a march on Berlin, when they will compel the Germans to engage in a general battle.
