Djcmal Pasha, who was in charge of the abortive expedition against Egypt, in a dispatch to Constantinople describes the expedition as a reconnoitring exploit. It -was hoped to make a stand until the mam troops arrived. He adds that his force had crossed the Canal and bayoneted the enemy, when a sandstorm interfered with operations. Six cruisers opened a horrible flanking fire, and armoured trains used quick-firers. In spite pf this the Turks fought a pitched battle for 30 hours with success to their side, and then retired calmly.
