EXHIBITION OPENING
MUST NOT BE DELATED. PRESIDENTIAL REASONS. Suggestions have been made in certain quarters (luring the 'past few daye that the opering of the Auckland Exhibition ehcrald be ipostponed in view of the inconvenience caused so far by the strike. The matter was referred to the president of the executive (Mr. Geo. Elliot) this afternoon, and the tone of his reply was most decided. " The Exhibition absolutely must open on Monday week,' , he said, " for several important reasons. In the lirst place, we will be quite ready: secondly, we •have all arrangements completed for a big flower carnival during the first week in December: and thirdly, the Royal Artillery Band will be here from England. "There are many other reasons why the opening ceremony should not be delayed." Mr. Elliot mentioned as an instance that 3.000 children were preparing to compete in floral competitions on December 5. and 23 schools had entered for the basket-ball tournament on the same day.
