N.S.W. RAILWAY CONTRACT.
A CENSURE MOTION. SYDNEY, August 26. In the New South Wales Assembly today, Mr Wade ( Leader of the Opposition) moved a vote of censure on the Government, with reference to the NortonGriffiths railway contract. He contended that the agreement struck a vital blow at the declared finnncial policy of the party in power. The Government had failed to supply the House with details of the firm's business reputation and ability to carry out the contract, or to show that proper safeguards had been adopted. The speaker generally criticised the Government's works policy. Mr Griffiths (Minister of Works), in the absence of Mr Holman (Premier) in Melbourne, replied in defence of the contract and the public works' policy. A protracted sitting is probable. MAJORITY OF SIX. (Received 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day.. The censure debate resulted in favour of the Government by 40 votes to 31.
