AUCKLAND'S DOCKS.
BIG SLIPWAY TO BE BUILT. The committee appointed by the Harbour Board to con-eider the question of doc-king accommodation in Auckland uxve formulated their report. They state that they discussed the question of a floating dock, bu considered the capital cost and the cost of maintenance too great. The committee makes recommendations us follows:— (A.) That in consideration of the engineer's estimate and report of the ISth inst., the (500-ton slipway—for which tho necessary Order-in-Uoancil has been issued—be forthwith built and equipped on the site adjoining tho present 200-ton slipway at Beaumont Street. (B.) That the engineer, bo authorised to make the necessary improvements to the present 200-ton elipway to make it available for small coasting boats and ■the Board's own plant. (C.) That tenders be immediately called for the necessary hauling gear, etc, and that the chairman and the engineer be authorised to deal with same. In connection with letters from tho N.Z. Shipowners' Federation re additional dock and slipway accommodation at Auckland, the committee recommend: "That in view of the representations Siving already racaived consideration, c letters be received."
