4 HEW AWARD DISCTJSSUD. ; i JN CONCILIATION COUNCIL. ■ ITJLL- SETTLEMENT REACHED. fbe Conciliation Council concluded its labours in regard to the electrical workers' dispute yesterday, and a full and complete settlement, satisfactory to all parties concerned, was arrived at. Clauses relating to interpretation, hours e f work, overtime and holidays, country ♦ork, Tinder-rate workers, tools, battery work, payment of wages, and exemptions w ere agreed to in the terms of the old award. ■^ages. —Electricians licensed under the Auckland City Council are to be paid not less than 1/5 per hour; electricians ■nnßeensed are to be paid not less than 1/4 per houT. Ponding the appointment 0 f an Electricians' Board for the conduct of examinations, it shall be competent for all electricians to apply to the Auckland city electrical engineer for a provisional certificate, daring the first six months of the currency of this award, and all electricians obtaining such certificate shail be deemed to be licensed electricians and shall receive 1/5 per hour. At the expiration of tbe aforesaid six months all electricians shall be required to pass the first examination provided for -by the board before they became entitled to 1/5 an honr. The wages of charge.men have been increased to 1/6 per hoar. Suburban Work.—Employers shall pay all, necessary fares to and from an}- job situated more than one and a-half mile from the shop of the employer, and the time o£ starting work shail be taken at ihe-one nxQe and a-half limit. Each worker shall be at his employers place of business at the hour appointed for the commencement of work, but if previously required so to do he shall go directly to the place where the work is to be performed, and if such place be more than one mile and a-half from the employer's place of business he. shall be paid, attheordinary rate of wages forthc time taken going to and returning from such work for the excess of such distance as is required to he travelled, reckoning the lime taken at the rate of three miles an hour, however, or by whatever means Be may proceed thereto. Any employer having nis place of business situated within one mile and a-half from a ferry and requiring his employee to use the same for suburban work 3hall pay all fares, and the employee shall travel by the boat leaving not earlier than 7.40 ajn. and return by the boat leaving not later than 5.10 p.m. each day. and on Saturday not later than 12.10 p.m. The provisions of this clause shall not apply to any worker empioyod by the Colonial Sugar Co.. Ltd. Apprentices. — The old apprentice clause stands good, with tlie addition of the following -clauses:—Apprentices are now required to produce satisfactory evidence of sickness from either parent or guardian. An employer shall be allowed to dismiss an apprentice for disobedience, insubordination, or repeated absence from work without lejve.

Notice of Leaving or Dismissal.—ln c-a.-e of tbe dismissal of any worker or any worker leaving of his own accord, not less than two hours* notice shall be givcivby either side. Preference.—No employer shall hereafter engage any worker who is not a member of the union, provided there is then a memher of the union equally qualified to perform the particular work required to be done and willing to undertake tbe samp. Whenever an employer shat! employ any worker who is not a member of the union, he shall, within 48 hours thereafter, give notice in writing to the inspector of Factories. The usual Oonrt clause as to admisdon to the union is also inserted.

Area Enlarged.—The scope of the award has been increased from a 10----mile radios from the chief post office in the. city of Auckland to cover the whole of the employers carrying on business fn the northern industrial district, but shall not extend to the Poverty Bsy district, which lies outside a line drawn from the East Cape along the main range to the boundary of the Wellington industrial district.

Two Years' Term.—The term of award has been nratuariy agreed upon as for a period of two years.

By mntesl consent, the whole of the Gisborne employers have been struck out from the lhrfc of parties cited. Valedictory.—A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Commissioner on &c motion of ITr. A. Burt, jun_, who remarked that the able assistance rendered by &. Giles had heen very helpful in overcoming many difficulties with -vvhieQ the dispute was surrrnmded. Mr. J. Bowden, on behalf of the union, seconded tee motion, and said that bis vmxm greatly appreciated the services rendered by the Commissioner. The motion was carried hy acclamation, and Mr. Riles -briefly thanked the assessors for their appreciation of his ■services.
