Among the gentlemen upon whom the Council of the Royal Society of Arts have bestowed the Society's silver medal j for papers contributed during their last session, is Sir Joseph Ward, -who received the token by way of a rewarU for his address on "New Zealand: an Ideal Place of Residence," delivered at the Society"c habitat in London during his recent visit. At the last Council meeting of the Royal Colonial Institute the following New Zoalandcrs were elected fellows: Mr. William .?. Cochrane, Mr. Harry R. Jenkins. Mr. J. K. Macfie. Mr. E." W. Nelson, and Mr. John A. Smith.

Mr. and Mrs. "Walter Buchanan, of Auckland, who are accompanied by their three daughters, arrived in England via Vancouver, having spent two months in Canada en route. They leave next week for Scotland and Ireland, then go on to Paris, Berlin, and Switzerland, and leave Naples for New Zealand in about a year's time.

Mr. Eliot R. Davis, son of Mr. Moss Davis, of Auckland, bus been touring tbe Continent with liis uncle. Mr Mark Davis, of Christchurch, and will be in England for a lew months before returning to New Zealand.

Mr. J. H. C. Hunter, managing director of the Enreka 'Milking Machine Company. Limited (Auckland), who has been superintending the display of milking machines at the Royal Agricultural Show at Bristol, is at present in London.

Lady and Miss Ward are in London for a week, and are staying at the Portland Hotel.

Mr. G. P. Donnelly, who has completely recovered from the slight operation he underwent at the hands of Sir St. Clair Thomson, leaves for New Zealand on August 12. via Canada.

Mrs. Percy Dufaur, of Auckland, who has been in Germany for the past six months, is again in England.

The Rev. P. S. and Mrs. Small-field-, of Auckland, spent three weeks in Canada and the United States, on the way to England, and intend to remain in London during July, going to Scotland and Ireland for August and spending September to December travelling in various places in England. In January they go to Naples'through France and Switzerland.
