A pleasiii- function took place at the residence of Mr. R. Harrison. Epsom, on Saturday, when the employees of the Epsom Road Board waited on him and presented him with a handsome piece oi silver. Mr. Harrison hail been foreman of the Board for fifteen years, but unfortunately had to retire on account of illhealth.

Mr. George MeCowett. an old resident of Auckland, passed away on Saturday at his residence in Victoria Avenue. Eden Terrace. The deceased, who was OS years of age, was a native of Paisley, Scotland, and came out in the ship Hileiislee. arriving in Auckland in 1864. He was for a time stationmastcr at Mount Albert, and then went to the Thames, where he was engaged in mining. He was also ideir.ifiecl "with the ojj Thames Navals. Returning to Auckland, he was employed in the Auckland Gasworks for upwards of lo years. He retired about 12 years ago. and had been in failing health for the last three years. He l»aves three sons and one daughter. The funeral, which took place yesterday, was largely attended by members of his lodge, the Local (tood Intent Lodge of Oddfellows, of which deceased was a prominent member.
