A bankruptcy sitting or the Auckland Supreme Court, fixed for thie morning, was, in the absence of a judge to preside, adjourned till to-morrow morning at 11.30 o'clock. A chamber sitting will ■be held at 11 o'clock by Mr Justice Cooper to go through the civil list with counsel.
Sergeant Murray, of the Auckland police force, has received notice of transfer to Reefton, where he is to take charge of the police sub-district. Ssrgt. Murray, during his two years' service in Auckland, has won the respect of officers and men alike hy his undoubted efficiency and his unvarying courtesy and quiet, but effective, methods of carrying out his duty. He recently planned und carried out some raids on sly-grog shope in the city, which resulted in con° victions. The transfer to a position involving greater responsibility is, in effect, ■promotion in the service.
A Maori defendant at Hamilton Court who was sued for the amount of a tailor's bill, informed the magistrate that he had lots of land which be could not dispose of. If he could get the money he would pay all his bills. The magistrate said all the Maoris round about seemed to be in the same position, as those who '»mc before him all told the same tale.
