FLEECED BY ADVENTURERS.
TWO WOMEN VICTIMS. A WIDOW AND HER BOARDINGHOUSE. Particulars have been Teceived of the history of two Adelaide women Who have become victims of English adventurers. Last year a widow opened a boardinghouse and had a fine looking girl as companion. Among the boarders who secured accommodation were two smart-looking young men who told glib stories of the wealth that was awaiting them in London. They made themselves so agreeable that in a few months they became engaged to the two women, whose consent was given greatly against the advice of friends.
Shortly afterwards it was announced ttafc the widow irad sold 'her boardinghouse for £500, and then, to tine eurprise of the friends of the women, the marliages were postponed until the parties reached London, for which passagi 5 were taken witSi the widow's money. With the £5,000 which the men said they would receive the four intended to tour the world.
Since then the widow 'has written to ter friends, stating that site had arrived in London, and was stranded. On fhe journey hex fiance stole a lot of things on the boat, and-ga.ve them to her, saying that they were .his property. At Colombo they changed to another vessel, and,he stole £300 from another lady. In London he took all her money out of .Iher bag,~ and deserted her at a railway station. ISse police can find no trace of the two men. No news is given of the girl. The widow is being assisted by the CommonweaJfch authorities.
