PARK FOR NELSON.
I (By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) Friday. The City "Council to-night received a tetter from Mr. Thomas Onvthron. well known for his benefactions to tho city, stating that 'he had acquired an aroa of 2,500 acres on the Dun Mountain line, surrounded by a wooded peak, about four miles from tho city, "which lie desired to present to the Council, as trustees for the people. The land embraces grand and beautiful scenery, and forma one of the finest untural parks in the Dominion. There are. already =c-enic and waterworks reserves adjoining, which, with ?>lr Cawfchron's gift, make a total reservation of about 7.500 acres. The Council adopted a resolution expressing high a.pprecia tion of Mr. throa's generosity, and decided to narao the area Cawthron Park. 1 The solar physics observatory which Mr Cawthron has offered in erect, equip, and endow "will probably be situated in or near- the park.
