FEATHER BEDS AND HEATERS. BXP_.A-N"ATION FROM PA__3-_E-R-.TON. I (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. Referring to t. question asked in the House by Mr. Dickson concerning tho use of featherbeds, carpets, and heaters by English officers at the Palmerston camp, the "Standard's" representative 'made inquiries. He found, in the first place, that there are no English officers in the camp at all. Those who are. in Palmerston as instructors are staying at hotels, and are paying personally for any expenses above their camp allowances. They are granted the privilege of lodginc outside the camp owing to having to remain six weeks in town, whereas the Territorial officers here have three weeks at most, and some only a- week. Japanese matting is provided by 'the department for the use of Territorial officers and non-roms. in camp, while the ■ temporary barracks are also heated at i the department's expense. The mat- . tresses used are personally hired by the : men.
