ARROGANT LORDS.

ESTABLISHING A TYRANNY. LAST DESPERATE FIGHT. FOR CLASS ASCENDANCY. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, August 1. At the demonstration, organised to prove that the Marconi wireless affair had not undermined Liberal esteem for Mr Lloyd-George, held yesterday at Carnarvon, over 10,000 people were presentMr Lloyd-George declared that a conspiracy to overthrow the Government was being carried on. Under the pretence of upholding the doctrine that the people should first be consulted, the Lords and their friends were arrogating the right to reject Liberal measures, and to resort to violence to prevent such measures being carried out. Such a doctrine would make party Gowrxnment a farce. The liberal Prime Minister would have to go round Belgravia every morning like a grocer's boy. ring the area bell, and ask the butler if he would kindly ascertain what orders there were by the Lords for the day. Only the fear of a revolution would induce the Lords to carry Liberal measures if they disliked them. "The fact of the matter is that we are fighting a last desperate effort to restore the grip of class ascendancy over the Legislature. "Tho Lords' recent action has made the abolition of tbe Second Chamber essential. A reformed Chamber will give equal treatment to all parties and creeds." The peasants and quarrymen of Carnarvon would be prosecuted if they appropriated the land of which their fathers were robbed, but the Tories claimed the right to choose what laws they should obey. The Tories, moreover, were seeking to establish tyranny over men who had destroyed monarchies and churches when these became instruments of oppression. The Tories were negotiating a revolution with hlind and headstrong recklessness. The Chancellor concluded by saying: "II is essential to clear away from the paths monopolies and privileges that Pro\ idonre may have a free road to carry its treasures of light, air. sustenance and hope to every cottage in the land."
