A ballot of the waterside workers in Wellington favoured by 756 votee to 58 a proposal to regulate the hours during which engagements should he made, requiring all labour to be engaged before 10 am. and 3 p_n., so that, men unsuccessful in their quest for work may look elsewhere instead of waiting indefinitely about the wharves. BODY IDENTIFIED. DUNBDIN, Thursday. The body of an old man, which was found in the bush near Port Chalmers cemetery. has been identified as that of Robert Cole, aged 77 years, who worked for Air Nisbet, painter. He left his employment on November 30, without-say-in"-' where he was going. A letter addressed to him was opened by the superintendent of police. It was from his sister, who lives at Portsmouth, England, and contained Christmas cards. LIGHTKEEPER'S SUDDEN DEATH. C___lSTC_f-UECH, Thursday. David Partington, head lightkeeper at Godley Head, died suddenly this morn-, ing. He was seated in the lighthouse waiting for sunrise before extinguishing the li°ht, when without warning he suddenly expired. The deceased, who was about 55 years of age, leaves a widow and one son and a. daughter. He was one of the oldest keepers in *he lighthouse service, and 'had been stationed at numerous lighthouses. j, MISCELLANEOUS. DUNEDIN, this day. - The Dunedin branch of the Civil Service Association unanimously decided to support the candidature of Mr Marryatt (Wellington) and Mr Mouatt (Dunedin) for seats on the Public Service Appeal Board. . .
