Although' the contract for the wood- ( paving of Karangahape Road was let . only a month ago, there are already : 224,000 jarrah blocks from the West Australian -forests on the scene of the work. By the steamer Norfolk, which arrived from Bunbury on Friday last, the big shipment of blocks was brought, and discharge was commenced oil that day, just three weeks after the ' order was placed. ' In all 700,000 blocks have been ordered for the paving of the 16,800 Bquare feet of roadway for which the contract has been let The blocks to be ~ utilised in the work vary in size from 6in i 'by 3in by sin to 9in by 3in by sin. Tie chip- ' ment on the Norfolk comprises blocks of ; | 6in by 3in by sin, and 7in by 3in by sin. \ Such a large number of blocks in .the 1 roadway has naturally attracted a good j deal of attention in the vicinity of the [ work, but they are being piled up tidily i along the kerbing so that traffic may not •be obstructed.
