NOMINATIONS CLOSING ON WEDNESDAY. KEEN" INTEREST IN CONTESTS. Nominations close on Wednesday next for the City Council and Hospital Board elections. For the Harbour Board nominations have finally closed. Polling day is fixed for Wednesday week, the 30th inst. Fresh candidates continue to be announced daily for the Council and Hospital Board. There are now 34 candidates for the-18 seats on the City Council, the latest announcements being Messrs. E. G. Skeates and G.- W. Harris. Mr. G. W. Murray's nominators for a seat on the City Council are Messrs. George Elliott, JL. J. BagnaH, W. B. Levland, W. McMath, G. Read and John Court. Keen interest will centre' in the contest for the five city seats on the Hospital Board. The Rev. Steele Craik is announced definitely as a candidate, and his nomination goes in to-day, signed by Messrs. H. H. Seabrook, F. Webley, W. B. Leyland, H. M. Smeeton, R. Armiger, D. Goldie, G. M. Fowlds and J. P. Hooton. There are now eleven candidates for the five city seats. The "Reform ticket" consists of Messrs. L. J. Bagnall, J. C. Glceson, J. M. Mennie, P. M. Mackay, and W. Thomas, and other candidates are Dr. Florence KelleT and Messrs J. L. Scott, A. Rosser, P. J. Nerheny, J. S. Dickson and Rev. Steele Craik.' * The borough of Mount Albert is embraced with Parnell, Arch Hill and the city proper in the " city " boundaries. Mr. E. H. I Mr. John-RoWe, Mayor of Ohekunga, I was nominated for a seat on the Hos-1 pital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday by the following gentlemen: Messrs. Oliver Nicholson '(Mayor, of. Mount Eden), George Baildon (Mayor of Grey Lynn). George Wilkinson* (chairman. Elierslie Town Board), and S. Bradley, JJ?., Onehunga. Mr. Rowe will address the electors in the Lyceum, Queen Street, Onehunga, next Wednesday night, when Dr. W. G. Scott will preside. A meeting of friends and supporters was addressed at the Leys Institute last ' evening by Mr. J.- F. MacMabon, who is a candidate for the City Council.'' Mr. MacMahon's candidature was Isupported by Messrs. R. Armiger, Hall Skelton, W. A. Thompson, J. Patterson, and Poulton. On the motion of |Mr. Salmon, a j resolution was carried, affirming confl- '< dence in the candidate. Mr. Hall Skelton addressed a meeting of timber-workers at the Kauri Timber I ' Co.'s hall yesterday, and' received a vote of confidence. The Birkenhead Burgesses' Association •was addressed last evening by Mr. G. R. Hutchinson, who is a candidate for the Harbour Board. Mr. Hutchinson's candidature was approved. The supplementary burgess roll closed last night at Onehunga. It is expected to contain close upon 1,000 names, lhe principal roll contains 1,800 names. Mr. John Farrell was waited upon yesterday by a deputation and asked" to r contest the Devonport mayoralty. Mr. Farrell, however, declined nomination. 1 A £3 deposit will be required of f Hospital Board candidates in combined • districts, and will be forfeited- towards the election expenses of the local body ' upon failure to receive one-eighth of the . votes polled by the successful candidate.
