M.Lorand,'a Liberal member, has introduced a bill to submit the question of universal suffrage to a referendum, with the object of terminating the strike. The leaders of the strike estimate that 380,000 men have ceased work. The actual number is probably about a quarter of a million. M. Marocque, a. millioi—ire ironmaster, ; is feeding the children of 15,000 strikers daily, lie will continue to do so whilst the strike lasts. The ordinary life of the big towns is but little affected by the strike.
