RUNNING ITS OWN BUSINESS.
THE RAILWAY AND ITS TRUCKS,

CHRISTCHUKCH, this day.
It was reported from Lyttelton to-day that while great inconvenience was caused to vessels at Lyttelton on account of shortage of railway trucks, a very old., grievance, long lines of empty trucks were standing in the yards at Christchureh. These'truck-3 were used in connection with fche recent territorial campa, and it is understood are set aside for use when H.M.s. New Zealand arrives, and when large numbers of visitors to the vessel will be handled by, the railway. The visit has been postponed until late in May, and the question was raised why the trucks could not be used for the ordinary purpose. In the meantime inquiries at the railway offices-by a Lyttelton "Times" reporter elicited the assurance that the Department could run its own business, and a request for a statement on the point met with a polite refusal, and the further assurance that if the Chamber of Commerce or anyone else concerned in the shortage of trucks were to ring up the authorities an explanation would he forthcoming.
