THE V.M.C.A.
(To tbe Editor.) Sir, —One of the new rules before the above Association merits more attention than it has co far received. It reads: "The Board shall have power to cancel, without giving any explanation, the membership of any person whose conduct they consider inconsistent with the character of the Association." It may be that some special reason can be ■given for the above draetic proposal, but it is out of place surely in the twentieth century. It savours more of the antiquated past, how in thie democratic age a body of Free Churchmen ehould deny an offender the right of trial, and, if necessary, of appeal, shows the need of remeiribering the old adage, "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom." I wonder hqw many would support a similar rule in political or Church life! I hope the meeting on the Bth met. will decline to Tatify such a proposal.— I am, etc., FAIRPLAY.
