BIG ADVANCE IN EXPORTS,
CUSTOMS DUTIES INCREASE.
The hfdk of trade at the port of Auckland dicing the month ended yesterday; was bijger than that of Majch, 1912, both matter of exports and imports. Satisfactory to state, the ratio of increase is most marked in respect of agricjltural and pastoral exports. Butter s/iipments show an enlargement to £i 03,335, as compared with £85,055 for the .corresponding month of last' year, and with £43,125 for March, 1911. The woW exports^—! ed\ _36jl_* r ' against ££.283 for March of last year, while frosen meat, cheese, flax, and kauri -urn alto showed considerable increases. The god,exports are also recovering well alter the serious falling off which . cceurred during last year.' The net'amount of' Customs revenue V ' collected in Auckland during the past month was £79,731 A/, as against £75,829 7/4 for March, 1912—an in- 4' crease of £3901 16/9. The respective- *' totals for beer duty were £2748 0/5 "'■■ and £2285 19/7. An increase of £15,917. 1 is shown iv favour of the first quarter I of this year in comparison with the total £ for the opening quarter of 191----(£227,548 14/1). Compared with the f opening quarter of 1912 the total for * the three months just ended reveals an f increase of £55,704 In favoiir of the m period now concluded.
