INCREASING POPULATION.

THE MOUTH'S ADDITIONS. ABOVE THOSE FOR 1012.

The population of Auckland has been increased during the month ending today by 1280 arrivals from overseas, and by an addition of 272 to the rarvks of the rising generation. While the exact t.otal of the departures from the port will not be known until the sailing of the Sydney boat to-night, it is expected to be less than that of arrivals, thus leaving the Dominion -with a substantial margin of new population.

A most satisfactory position is revealed by the vital statistics for the month just ending, .the births being more than twice the uumber of deaths. In view of the recent typhoid epidemic this record is extremely gratifying. During the montli of March the births numbered 272, making a total of 810 for the first three months of the year. The deatlm numbered 127. and for the quarter 330. One hundred and sixty marriages were celebrated during March, and 405 took place during the quarter. During March of last year the brrths totalled 257, and for th»." first quarter G9O, while the respective totals in dea.ths were 101 and 270. The month's marriages were 131, and those for the quarter 392 during 19K.
