OHIO FLOODS.
DANGER NOW OVEE. DEATH ROLL OF 600. NEW YORK, March 29. The floods in the Ohio district have receded. An official estimate states that tlio number of lives lost throughout the entire area affected by the flood docs not exceed 600.
Arrangements for the relief of the sufferers are satisfactory.
Hundreds of rescues were effected in Columbus by motor-boats running on the waters of the submerged .streets. Thirty buildings were destroyed by floods in Troy (Now York State). No lives were lost. The business section was considerably damaged by fires. Military forces are patrolling the streets. SITUATION IMPROVING. 15,000 HOMELESS. (Received 1.40 p.m.) DAYTON. March 3l>. The flood situation is still improving. The bodies have been buried, and the relief is adequate. The secretary of the garrison estimates that the total of the flood area victims does not exceed r>oo.
A telephone message reports fire and devastation at Portsmouth, near Columbus, Ohio, a small town which was flooded.
A total oF 15.000 people are homeless in Ohio. Tn Kentucky several towns were flooded and there was some loss of life. Array patrols are protecting the floodbanks on the Mississippi wherever they are threatened.
