The ve.rdict of the Court has been delivered in the case in which Sir Nortnand MacLaurin, a director of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, was proceeded against for refusing to attend before the Sugar Commission in answer to a subpoena. The Magistrate Tuled that the constitution of the Commission not having been found unlawful, and the defendant, having failed without reasonable excuse to attend, was guilty of an offence under the Royal Commission Act. His Worship" imposed a fine of £25 with £320 costs, in default three months hard labour. Twenty-one days were allowed in which to pay the fine. In view of a possible appeal the cases against other directors were adjourned for a week. Argument in the case lasted for 38 days.
