Major-General Godley left for Wellington by the express last evening. His Excellency Lord Islington, is now on the West Coast. After visiting Kumara and Hokhika he goes oveilani to Christchurch. Mr. C. Atkinson, of Chriatchurc!i. returned from Sydney by the Victor i today, lie is staying at the Grand .io'.cl. Mr. H. A. Bennett, of Melbourne, .; Thrived from Sydney to-day by tuo . c toria, and > s staving at the lent;.J Hotel. Mr. S. S. Dean, manager for the South British Insurance Company, at GisLorne, is at present in Auckland on holiday leave. Mr. E. Blaine, of Rarotonga, arrived by the Victoria from Sydney this morning, en route for the islanda. Be is s.ta;srag at the Grand Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. F. Buchaiuui, of Canterbury, returned from Rotorna last evening, and are staying at the Grand Hotel. They leave for the South by the Victoria to-morrow. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Hill, of Adelaide, who have been staying at the Grand_ Hotel, left for Rotorna this morning? They return on Friday ani leave on Monday next for Sydney. Mr. Harold Cooper, eon of M*. Justice Cooper, has taken the M.8., B-Sc. degrees in addition to his L.R.C.P. (London) and M.R.C.S. (England). He has now had a somewhat extensive hospital experience in the biggest hospital in the North of England (the Royal Victoria, Newcastle-on-Tyne), and will probably return to New Zealand about the early part of next year. The death occurred last evening of Mrs. W. F. Buckland, wife of the exMayor of Cambridge, who passed away in her sleep. The deceased lady, who was a great sufferer, was of a most kindly disposition, and beloved by all who knew her. Universal sympathy is expressed for her sorrowing husband and sisters, Miss Shepherd and Mrs. Bassett, Onehunga, and her brother, Mr. Chas. Shepherd, Epsom. An old resident of Cabbage Bay, Coromandel, Mr. John Evans, died yesterday, at the age of SI. Mr. Evans, who was a native of Wales, came to New Zealand over fifty years ago, and settled almost immediately at Cabbage Bay, which waa his home ever afterwards. He suffered many hardships in the early days, and was always noted for his hospitality. He leave.; a wido<v, six sons and daughters, and a number of grandchildren. The young man Vernon Richardson, a member of D Battery, who was killed on the Hutt-road on Saturday afternoon, through a gun wheel passing over him, was the eldest son of Captain G. S. Richardson, of the N.Z. Staff Corps, and late Chief Instructor of Artillery. Captain Richardson, with his family, is now on his way to Enzland to undergo a two years' course of training, and his s<jn was to follow him next month. Much sympathy with the family has been expressed in Wellington.
