MR. FOWLDS AND GOVERNMENT. WILL NOT ADOPT A PARTY. (By Teleirraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON., this day. "I was finished, naturally, as Minister as soon as my resignation was accepted, and 1 am busy now squaring up my papers," said Mr Fowlds in the course of an interview this morning. "I am not prepared to make any statement on the subject of my resignation. I want to have some breathing time before 1 begin to talk on the subject. 1 made my statement as full, unequivocal, and clear as possible, and 1 want to leave it there for the present. "I don't propose to adopt any section of the House," continued Mr Fowlds, "and shall support the Government proposals as far as they are in harmony with the general principles 1 have stood for. I am not taking up any position of antagonism to the Government, but will try to help them along the path of progress rather than 'hinder them. I have been perfectly loyal in every shape and form, ' and I have not intrigued in any way with 1 anybody. lam not taking any steps in 1 that direction now. The only step I shall ' take before the general election will he in the direction of putting my views before 1 'the people of New Zealand."
