(Received 10.40 a.m.) BRISBANE, this day. All the passengers who landed at Brisbane from the Dutch liner Van Linschoten, aboard which a case of smallpox was subsequently discovered, have been traced. Infection from that quarter is not feared. BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP. (Received 10.40 ajn.) MELBOURNE, this day. Williams has scored 1335 and Lindrum 870 in their match of 8000 up for the championship of Australia. JUTE FIBRE IN WOOL. (Received 10.10 ajn.) MELBOURNE, this day. Mr. Tudor (Minister for Customs) states that he is diffident over taking action in connection with the Roubaix Conference complaint against jute fibre in wool. He prefers that those concerned should find the remedy. FEDERAL PARLIAMENT SESSION. MELBOURNE, September 4. The Federal Parliament opens to-mor-row. The Cabinet has considered the Estimates, and agreed that a careful pruning of expenditure is necessary, and that there shall be no new taxation this session. AT THE MOMENT OF RETIREMENT. SYDNEY, September 4. Tbe death occurred to-day of Captain Lindeman, Government shipping master, who dropped dead in the Public Works Office while arranging matters in connection with his retirement, which had just been announced. Heart trouble was the cause. THE LOST LAURA SYDNEY. September 4. Further wreckage, supposed to belong to the Laura, has heen found at Cronnlla. It includes a lifebuoy, but bearing no name.
